| KATHERINE MAHONEY
A r.e.a.l. store favourite, Katherine Mahoney knew she was a ceramicist the minute she walked through a pottery door in Kent, more than 30 years ago. “I fell in love with the stockroom, stacked from floor to ceiling with beautiful hand-thrown pieces. I begged the owner Keith Harding to take me on, and started at the bottom doing all jobs from pugging clay to packing up orders. In return I was allowed to use the wheels in the evening, to teach myself to throw.” Since then, Katherine has more than graduated from doing odd jobs, and her handmade pieces are now displayed and sold in selected stores and galleries in Sydney and around regional NSW. Having studied and taught in Hong Kong for a number of years, Katherine’s work is heavily inspired by East Asia’s rich history in ceramics, creating a seamless infusion with her local influences. | |
