Virginia Aland creates her unique and stunning jewellery using the three thousand year old Egyptian technique Faience, which was taught to her by her partner’s mother. Virginia has worked for twenty years with extraordinary patience and duress perfecting her secret paste mix of clay, glazes and oxides which she sun-bakes then fires to produce each handmade bead in her home studio on the South Coast of NSW.
Her jewellery is a stylish infusion of this ancient technique and contemporary fashion and design. She’s wonderfully creative in her exploration of jewellery, incorporating felt, glass, feathers and other textures in her designs. She also makes all the fittings and settings herself from sterling silver which adds to the quality, integrity and workmanship of her pieces. The textures of the beads themselves vary from matt to shiny and come in all the cool colours of ocean, some peaceful, others dazzling and vibrant.
